Fire up the Garden, Part II

April 22, 2007

A little yard work today.

Like any good project, always put the Prius on the lawn to get started.

For anyone who wants to know how to gas up a L series John Deere riding mower, this is it.  Go get a 1 litre bottle of water, or other like kind beverage.  Finish it off, cut an opening in the side/bottom as shown here and use it as a funnel.  I have a couple different types of gas cans and they all do the wrong thing when trying to fuel up without this.  A standard funnel also seems to be more splash prone than this.  Let's face it, Deere could have picked 1 worse place for the filler (under the hood by the engine).

This is a Troy Bilt tiller.  It has a bit of a seep/leak in one of the rear seals and I'm sure it needs some oil in the crank case.

Take this plug out.  You can see the shaft when you get it out.  The oil is supposed to ride about 1/2 deep on the shaft.   I used Napa brand 80W40 gear lube.

See to the left where I mowed it short in early spring.  That's the right thing to do every year to the whole lawn.

And, the circle garden... is going to go rectangular from now on.

In the next couple tillings, these will come around and blend in.

It's about 39x39 ish... Stay tuned...
